Discover The Effectiveness Of Acupuncture
For Insomnia

The Chinese have used acupuncture for insomnia for centuries to get a peaceful natural night’s sleep. Our bodies have certain requirements in order to maintain health and one of the main ingredients is getting the proper amount of sleep.

Insomnia is a problem caused by a number of factors. No matter how you look at them all point to an imbalance of some sort. You could be having a problem with stress, hormones, digestive system, anxiety, depression, cardiovascular disorders or even medications that you are taking.

Many doctors will prescribe prescription medications to help you sleep when you are having insomnia problems. However, these medicines are not in your best interest and can have a number of side effects that are as bad if not worse than the actual problem. Whereas acupuncture has been demonstrated to have a tremendously relaxing and restful effect on the nervous system.

Over time acupuncture for insomnia can help remedy the imbalances that cause the problem without the worry of side effects caused by traditional medicines.

According to the Chinese there are different forms of insomnia, therefore different treatment points are used in conjunction with various herbal formulas. So in order to ascertain what is causing your insomnia, an acupuncturist will work with you to find out what is going on emotionally, mentally and physically so that a treatment plan can be made.

One thing that you need to keep in mind though, is that anytime your body becomes ill it is generally because you haven’t taken the time to eat properly, get the right amount of exercise as well as rest. If you don't do those things then there is no treatment that will completely rid you of your insomnia problem.

How To Improve Your Sleep

Foods that are stimulating, including rich sauces, spicy and heavy meats should be avoided in the evenings. The same goes for alcoholic and caffeinated beverages.

In the evenings work that is stressful and mental should be avoided if possible and vigorous exercise should be done earlier in the day. Evening activities should be those that are more restful to prepare your body for sleep.

Other things that you can do to prepare yourself for sleep is to have a cup of chamomile or valerian root tea, as both of these have a calming effect. You can also soak your feet in warm water to draw the energy from your head to your feet.

A good relaxation exercise you can do while laying in bed is to tighten your entire body, beginning at the top of your head and focus your attention feel your scalp tighten, then feel it tighten your ears, neck, shoulders, arms, hand and fingers; tightening every muscle in your body all the way to your toes. Then begin to relax this time starting at your toes and working your way up and as you relax each muscle feel the stress of the day leave your body as the muscles relax.
