Home Remedies For Gout
Can Ease The Pain

Gout always seems to target the big toe and previously injured joints. Keep some home remedies for gout on hand, if you suffer from periodic bouts of it.

It most commonly affects middle-age men and even though it does run in some families it is not considered hereditary. Women are not immune to gout however it is a less common occurrence for a woman to suffer from gout. For those that suffer from gout there are home remedies that can help to lessen the pain, but first you need to understand what gout is.

Gout is caused by an excessive amount of uric acid in the bloodstream, which forms into little crystals. These crystals then cause inflammation in the joint(s) in your body, usually only attacking one joint at a time and on occasions two joints that are located in close proximity to one another.

An attack of excruciating pain, which turns the skin around the area red and usually very hot, occurs at night. It can last from a few hours to several days. Below you will find some useful home remedies for gout that you can experiment with.

Simple Effective Home Remedies For Gout

Home Remedies For Gout
  • foods that are high in purine such as liver, kidney, anchovies, pork and sweetbreads. Foods such as spinach, lunch meats, beans and oatmeal have a moderate amount of purine should be limited to one 3.5 ounce serving a day.
  • If you suffer from gout and you are moderately to severely overweight, then you can lessen the attacks by getting rid of some excess weight.
  • You should also keep your blood pressure within a normal range and keep your body well hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Water works as a filter and pushes the excess uric acid from your body.
  • A half a pound of cherries a day will help keep the gout at bay or so they say. There are no medical studies to back that up, but gout suffers swear by them.
  • Charcoal is a very safe and effective home remedy to be used by gout sufferers. It’s used in hospitals for drug overdose or accidental poising as well as numerous other reasons. The properties in activated charcoal act as a toxin remover, it draws the toxins that we all have out of the body. Charcoal is also the most popular home remedy used to combat gout. You can take a half to a teaspoon orally up to four times a day spread out between getting up and going to bed.
  • You can also use the charcoal as a poultice. Mix a half charcoal with two tablespoons of ground flaxseed and then add very warm water to the mixture until it is pasty. Apply this poultice to the affected joint(s) and cover with a cloth. You can change it every four hours or leave it on overnight. The downfall of this is that it does stain so be sure to lay or sit on something you don’t mind ruining.

Using home remedies to combat gout is a wise choice, as you should avoid over the counter painkillers like acetaminophen and aspirin.

Using aspirin can actually increase the pain by stopping the release of the built up uric acid. Acetaminophen only has a small amount of inflammation fighting ability. If you do take an over the counter medication then ibuprofen is your best bet, as it contains the largest amount of anti inflammatory ingredient than all other over the counter painkillers.

But do try simple home remedies for gout as they actually help resolve the cause of the condition, rather than simply palliating the symptom, of what is really a systemic problem.
