  • One of the easiest ways is by setting a strict sleeping schedule for yourself each week. Each week the schedule should be very similar. It is important that you regulate your sleeping habits and make them very consistent. This ensures that you’re getting enough sleep. When you regulate your sleeping patterns, you allow your body clock to also regulate itself.
  • It is also important to go to bed when you’re sleepy. If you lay in bed for 15-20 minutes and you don’t fall asleep, get out of bed and read a book or watch television. Do something that will eventually make you drowsy again and then once you’re drowsy, try to sleep. But remember, you have to wake up at around the same time each morning.
  • Another effective way to try to cure your insomnia is to set time aside to settle down and relax before bed time. Read a book or just sit and reflect on the day or listen to relaxing music. Don’t try to sleep straight away after busy evening - you mind may be racing. Give yourself time to unwind.
  • Keep your bedroom dark, cool and quiet. Use a sleeping mask or earplugs if necessary.
  • Eat your evening meal at least 2 hours before bedtime.
  • Enjoy a cup of valerian root or chamomile tea, both of which have relaxing properties. This lets your mind as well as your body to calm down.
  • Meditation is also extremely helpful as a one of the simplest home remedies for insomnia.
  • It is also important to avoid caffeine, alcohol and high amounts of sugar before sleeping.
  • Get plenty of regular exercise as this can help you sleep.
